 X-posure

Region: Cornwall | City: Penzance

X-posure is a concept to further exhibition and promotion of artists' work in unusual spaces and under unusual conditions. The group is defined by each given project and circumstance. The nature of the project determines the number of artists (and their field of work) who are invited to participate.

The concept was created in 2002 by Volker Stox and Richard Ballinger and the first event was mounted at the "Space" gallery, Penzance in May 2003.
Richard Balinger"Space" was a gallery / restaurant / bar- concept housed in the old Vospers car showroom on the seafront in Penzance and was an ideal venue for our first event.
At X-posure 2003, eleven artists from Cornwall were showing together at 'space'. Participating Artists were: Richard Ballinger, Rose Cecil, Luke Frost, Sax Impey, Anton Nickson, Richard Nott, Michael Rees,Tom Rickman, John Scarlett-Davis, Jesse Leroy Smith and Volker Stox.

In 2007, X-posure is planning a new event this autumn in Penzance named "second x-posure."
This will be an exhibition, which was inspired by the idea to show established artists, emerging artists and student’s works together in one environment. Quite a large space is needed for this and we have chosen PZ gallery to stage this event. Exposure has shown 11 artists there in 2003 and the exhibition was a tremendous success and a memorable event.
This will again be a unique exhibition, which will feature predominantly large works of artists not normally seen together. The line up will include established, emerging and student artists. We envisage holding a number of events during its run, including an evening of poetry and performance in the gallery, in collaboration with "Tip of the Tongue" poetry festival; a number of private views; educational happenings; artist's videos and performance.
The PZ gallery space is large and light with high ceilings and an industrial feel. It is situated on the Penzance sea front and overlooks Mounts Bay and Newlyn. The perfect setting for an exhibition, which shows the work of locally based artists in this surprising formation.
