The Royal Photographic Society
Region: Somerset | City: Bath
The Royal Photographic Society was founded in 1853 “to promote the Art and Science of Photography.” Now based on the outskirts of Bath, the Society has a large UK and overseas membership of amateur and professional photographers, with diverse interests in art, science, the moving image, digital imaging and much more.
As well as holding over 250 events across the country each year, The Society, which is a registered educational charity also runs an active education programme. This includes work with schools and colleges, weekend workshops and lecture series across a very broad spectrum of photographic interest, and its Annual International Open Slide and Print competitions. Through its Annual Awards The Society continues its 150-year tradition of recognising excellence and achievement within the world of lens-based media.
Members receive The Royal Photographic Society Journal ten times a year, which features Society news, interviews with leading international photographers, book and exhibition reviews and articles on technique.
