Gwynngala

Gwynngala is a group of professional artists and makers from the Launceston area who originally came together in September 1996, and in 1997 took on the lease of the Southgate Arch Gallery in Launceston. Gwynngala is the Cornish word for September. Initially a group of twelve, there are now over 20 members, whose creative activities include a wide range of media and styles.
The aims of the group are to provide contemporary visual art in the area, and to promote and develop the members’ skills and artistry through interaction with each other. Some of the members are involved with teaching and running creative workshops in schools and the local community.
In 2003, the decision was taken to vacate the Arch, and to focus on taking the group’s work to a variety of local venues. In 2007 the Exhibition Programme is as follows:
