Bushhammer
Region: Wiltshire | City: Slaughterford
Bushhammer was a not-for-profit sculpture resource offering workshop and stone carving facilities, located at a farm-based studio in Slaughterford, Wiltshire. Set up in 2002 and managed by Jon Sait, it developed out of Stoneworks, which was founded in 1996.
Bushhammer offered training to sculptors working in stone, as well as a summer programme of 5-day induction workshops to non-professionals, and support to sculptors working in other media. It provided a focal point for a network of stone carvers, including both professional artists and committed amateurs.
Unfortunately the Bushhammer studios had to close in 2004 due to difficulties with the local council’s planning department. However Bushhammer as a group is still in existence and is currently developing a resource in the Maestrazgo area of southern Aragon, Spain.
