Bristol Zoo Art Project

Region: Avon | City: Bristol

Over the past eighteen months a group of artists who met on the Fine Art MA programme at the University of the West of England, have been working together with Bristol Zoo to plan an exhibition of contemporary art sited within the Zoological gardens. This is the first time Bristol Zoo has hosted a Contemporary art exhibition. The participating artists will be making artworks in response to the context of the Zoo including its mission, archive, site and environment. The result will be an innovative exhibition, demonstrating a wide range of media including photography, video, painting, sculpture and sound installation.

Bristol Zoo is a significant part of the local cultural landscape, providing the participating artists with a rich, exciting environment for research, development and dialogue.
The wider benefits of the project extend to the facilitation of an educational programme involving schools, art organisations, community groups and individuals. Off-site talks and events throughout the city are also planned to co-incide with the exhibition in order to widen audience participation.
Artist-led tours of the Zoo and the artworks will take place on a regular basis throughout the duration of the exhibition.
A website will be produced to document the project.
