Skills Training Rural Arts Week

Skills Training Rural Arts Week (STRAW) was initiated1999 with the aim of providing significant and relevant training to equip rural-based artists in Devon with the skills they need to become better able to support themselves through their arts practice. Two successful programmes of Professional Development Courses were held in 2000 and 2002, alongside the development of ‘Nine Days of Art’, an open studios event held in 2000 and 2002, involving over 400 artists and 270 venues in rural Devon.

In Autumn 2002 the Nine Days of Art conference enabled all participating artists to feed back their experiences and plan for the future of the open studios event.

In 2004 STRAW developed into a new group called DAN (Devon Artist Network).
