Ilka is an artists’ support group which was set up in 2003 by sculpture graduates from the University of Gloucestershire. Recognising that rural-based artists are often disadvantaged by geographical isolation and the lack of cohesive arts community in their immediate area, Ilka provides a network of support for its members.

Ilka aims to provide innovative and exciting exhibition opportunities for its members; encourage the development of members’ professional skills; freely exchange information and provide encouragement and support. It has an ultimate goal of equipping every member with the skills needed for a professional art career. As a consequence Ilka is currently trying to make links with other artists groups in Britain and abroad with a view to organising exchanges of artists and exhibitions, both here and abroad. Ilka is open to artists working in sculpture who are either former students of the University or live in the Gloucestershire area. The group has a very loose definition of the word sculpture and has members who work mostly with video, live performance or photography, and who have a strong conceptual edge to their work.
