 Louise Short

Louise Short studied sculpture and photography at Exeter College of Art graduating in 1986, and gained an MA in Fine Art from University of Wales Institute, Cardiff in 1992.
She has since exhibited widely in Europe, the Middle East and Australia. Her interest in collections and commonly used objects has culminated in installations and sculptural assemblages which often utilise various forms of dirt and discarded material; her installation Teething Room is in the Arts Council’s Collection.

Louise is Director of Station (www.stationbristol.co.uk), a former fireboat station on Bristol docks, which she converted into a temporary research and development centre for artists in 2000. Her work involves curation, exhibition organisation and consultancy, and she is instrumental in initiating debate, and making opportunities for artists to realise new work.

Louise teaches in Site Based Practice and Photography at Plymouth University and has been a visiting artist to the Sculpture and MA Departments at the Cardiff School of Art & Design since 1993.
